A 21st century take on the touring bike, the BRAVe takes all the great features of gravel and mountain bikes and combines them into one do-it-all bike. We wanted a bike that takes us back to the core of what cycling is all about - adventure! Getting out on your bike, not for aero gains or jibbing (no we don’t know what this is either) but for pure fun.

Basically, exploring what the world has to offer regardless of the terrain, loading up or just riding because you can and, let’s face it, there is no better way to see the world than from a bike.

BRAVe 2.0 Flat Bar

BRAVe 2.0 takes the comfort, control and big tyre clearance from mountain bikes whilst bringing the loading capacity, flexibility and efficiency from gravel bikes. The result? An e-bike that can handle all of your adventures.

Maxxis Rekon Race tubeless tyres combines super low rolling resistance, with unprecedented all - surface handling for long gravel roads or loamy single tracks. Durability, serviceability and flexibility are the key words here. Microshift Advent X 10 speed combines the durability of having less gears with the wide range gear ratios of the high end 12 speed group sets. Brakes and hubs come courtesy of Tektro And Formula, simple and timeless designs that can be easily fixed on the trail and just about any bike shop in the world will have parts for them.

The Design

The Cairn BRAVe features a balanced geometry that wouldn’t look out of place on either a mountain bike or a gravel bike. Comparative to a gravel bike it's slacker and longer, which brings better stability and control, whilst keeping the steering manageable for the fully loaded days. The shorter seat tubes, taller stack height and 29 x 2.5 tyre clearance increase comfort to 'sofa by the fire' levels. The larger tyre width, matched with a more controllable 85nm of torque from the Shimano EP6 system and 180mm disc rotors, all combine to keeping you upright and in control on the trail.

Regardless of how you ride or where you ride, the BRAVe has a ton of useful everyday features that make this possible. The semi integrated 630wh external fitted battery is hard to ignore, but makes room for frame bags, as well as faff free removal and a massive range. Places to mount bottle cages and gear are evident all over the frame. We have 5 different locations, featuring 14 bosses to mount all of those big ride needs. Boost hub spacing makes the huge tyre clearance possible and a lowered fork bridge keeps fender compatibility.

Shimano BT-EN606 is the largest battery on offer at 630Wh. That should mean much longer between re-charges. Whether you have a big day planned in the mountains or multiple days without an opportunity to plug in, used wisely that is 25% more battery capacity than most 500wh batteries on the market.

At 3.2kg the compact unit means unlike internal tube batteries it keeps the weight lower in the frame and keeping removal for charging and security faff free.

FAQ's

What is the rider weight limit?

120kg load limit, this includes rider, luggage and weight of the bike. This meets the requirement of ISO 4210 and EN15194. This does not mean if rider and luggage is over this, they cannot ride or buy a Brave. They will just need to be more considerate of the effects this will have on the bike’s lifespan and overall fatigue. You can read more about this in the Cairn Manual.

 

Can I fit racks?

Yes, the BRAVe has provisions for front and rear racks. On the front we recommend its fixed in at least 3 locations, ideally both fork legs and crown. For the rear we recommend that it is fixed in 4 places, on the seat tube and at the dropout. Always follow the rack manufacturers on max load limits. Alternatively, we would recommend Tailfin or Old Man Mountain Axle mounted racks.

 

Can I fit a dropper post?

Yes, the Brave has provisions for an internally routed dropper post. The cable needs to run externally on the none drive side of the bike and enter the lower seat tube. Maximum insertion differs per size, so check before purchasing a post.

 

Can I fit a suspension fork?

Yes, the BRAVe features suspensions corrected geometry. This means if you wish you could fit a suspension fork. We recommend between 80 – 100mm of travel.

 

Is the BRAVe compatible with 27.5" or 650b plus wheels?

Due to the geometry and design of the BRAVe its is not compatible with a 27.5" or 650b plus wheel.

 

Can I fit cargo cages and how much can they carry?

There is no hard and fast rule on this one. Yes, you can fit cargo cages on any of the bottle bosses provided. We work on a bottle-cage bolt style mount can take about 1.5kg per bolt used. It is dependant on where on the bike its being mounted and how many mounts you use and the kind of things your are trying to carry. We recommend using as many bolts as you can to support the weight the better. So, if you can fit a 3 bolt anything cage this is recommended. Always follow the cage manufacturers on max load limits.

 

Does the BRAVe have provisions for a kickstand?

The BRAVe does not support the use of a kickstand.

We understand that buying a new e-bike is a big decision. To help you with that, we are so confident that you'll be happy with your Cairn E-bike, that we offer a full 60 days to ride it. If at any point during these 60 days you wish to return it for a full refund (or a product swap) please complete our Technical Support form, or call us on the phone number at the foot of our website. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund on any item that has suffered severe or crash damage within this period. However, we do offer a crash replacement discount scheme, so please contact us via email or phone and we will help.

Warranty

Cairn Cycles warranty is only valid if it is purchased through Cairn Cycles or an authorised dealer. The warranty is void if your Cairn bicycle was not purchased direct or with an un-authorised dealer, if you are not the original owner, or it has been subject to non-normal use. Non-normal use conditions mean the bike has been subjected to tricks, stunts, skate parks, pump tracks, ramps, bike parks, north shore style, trials riding, commercial or hire activities. All riding should be done within the intended use of the bicycle, see intended uses page for more details. Warranty does not apply to normal wear and tear, abuse, neglect, improper assembly or maintenance as well as crash damage or non-original parts.

Complete Bicycle

All bikes will have a 1-year complete bicycle warranty, as long as the bicycle was purchase from Cairn Cycles direct or an authorised dealer. This will cover any defective materials or workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. This will be subject to condition and use within the intended us guidelines.

Frame

All Cairn Cycles frames will be covered for a period of 5 years from the date of purchase by the original owner. Subject to normal and intended use, regular maintenance and inspection by Cairn Cycles.

Fork

All Cairn Cycles forks (for suspension fork warranty please see the manufactures website or manual) will be covered for a period of 5 years from the date of purchase to the original owner. Subject to normal and intended use, regular maintenance and inspection by Cairn Cycles.

Wheels

Your wheels are provided with a 1-year warranty against material or workmanship defects. The warranty period runs from the purchase date.

Components

The individual components of your bicycle will have a warranty period as well, which is specific to the manufacture or the component. These will be either outlined in the provided manuals at point of purchase or the details can be found on the manufacturers

PATENTED LIMITLESS TECHNOLOGY

In order to create the most aerodynamic & stable shape for the tyre, a rim bed of 22.5mm is needed. With the tyre profile this creates, the ideal shape of the rim curves out to an external width of 35mm. To overcome the weight penalty associated with this, we use a (non-structural) low density expanding polymer insert, inside a channel carved out during pre-preg.

This is bonded to the carbon during the curing process, resulting in an exceptionally strong bond. The density of carbon is 1.6g per cubic centimetre, whereas the polymer insert weighs just 0.7g per cubic centimetre, resulting in a (rotational) mass loss of just over 50g per rim. This patented technology enables us to consider the limits of material properties, and smash right past them.

  • UK/EU/ROW – All Cairn Bicycles sold in the UK/EU/ROW will be set to the maximum pedal-assisted speed limit of 15.5mph or 25kph.

  • US/NA – All Cairn Bicycles sold in North America will be set up per Class 1 status, allowing the bike to assist to 20mph or 32kph only when the rider is pedalling.

Shimano BT-E6018 is the largest battery on offer at 630Wh. That should mean much longer between re-charges, so whether you have a big day planned in the mountains or multiple days without an opportunity to plug in, used wisely it'll provide 25% more battery capacity than most 500wh batteries on the market.

At 3.5kg the compact unit means that unlike internal tube batteries, it keeps the weight lower in the frame and keeps the removal for charging and security faff free.

We understand that buying a new e-bike is a big decision. To help you with that, we are so confident that you'll be happy with your Cairn E-bike, that we offer a full 60 days to ride it. If at any point during these 60 days you wish to return it for a full refund (or a product swap) please email explore@cairncycles.com, or call us on the phone number at the foot of our website. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund on any item that has suffered severe or crash damage within this period. Warranty

Cairn Cycles warranty is only valid if it is purchased through Cairn Cycles or an authorised dealer. The warranty is void if your Cairn bicycle was not purchased direct or with an un-authorised dealer, if you are not the original owner, or it has been subject to non-normal use. Non-normal use conditions mean the bike has been subjected to tricks, stunts, skate parks, pump tracks, ramps, bike parks, north shore style, trials riding, commercial or hire activities. All riding should be done within the intended use of the bicycle, see intended uses page for more details. Warranty does not apply to normal wear and tear, abuse, neglect, improper assembly or maintenance as well as crash damage or non-original parts.

Complete Bicycle

All bikes will have a 1-year complete bicycle warranty, as long as the bicycle was purchase from Cairn Cycles direct or an authorised dealer. This will cover any defective materials or workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. This will be subject to condition and use within the intended us guidelines.

Frame

All Cairn Cycles frames will be covered for a period of 5 years from the date of purchase by the original owner. Subject to normal and intended use, regular maintenance and inspection by Cairn Cycles.

Fork

All Cairn Cycles forks (for suspension fork warranty please see the manufactures website or manual) will be covered for a period of 5 years from the date of purchase to the original owner. Subject to normal and intended use, regular maintenance and inspection by Cairn Cycles.

Wheels

All Hunt Bike Wheels are provided with a 3-year warranty against material or workmanship defects. The warranty period runs from the purchase date. For more information visit our help pages

FAQ's

What is the rider weight limit?

120kg load limit, this includes rider, luggage and weight of the bike. This meets the requirement of ISO 4210 and EN15194. This does not mean if rider and luggage is over this, they cannot ride or buy a Brave. They will just need to be more considerate of the effects this will have on the bike’s lifespan and overall fatigue. You can read more about this in the Cairn Manual.

 

Can I fit racks?

Yes, the BRAVe has provisions for front and rear racks. On the front we recommend its fixed in at least 3 locations, ideally both fork legs and crown. For the rear we recommend that it is fixed in 4 places, on the seat tube and at the dropout. Always follow the rack manufacturers on max load limits. Alternatively, we would recommend Tailfin or Old Man Mountain Axle mounted racks.

 

Can I fit a dropper post?

Yes, the Brave has provisions for an internally routed dropper post. The cable needs to run externally on the none drive side of the bike and enter the lower seat tube.

 

Can I fit a suspension fork?

Yes, the BRAVe features suspensions corrected geometry. This means if you wish you could fit a suspension fork. We recommend between 80 – 100mm of travel.

 

Is the BRAVe compatible with 27.5" or 650b plus wheels?

Due to the geometry and design of the BRAVe its is not compatible with a 27.5" or 650b plus wheel.

 

Can I fit cargo cages and how much can they carry?

There is no hard and fast rule on this one. Yes, you can fit cargo cages on any of the bottle bosses provided. We work on a bottle-cage bolt style mount can take about 1.5kg per bolt used. It is dependant on where on the bike its being mounted and how many mounts you use and the kind of things your are trying to carry. We recommend using as many bolts as you can to support the weight the better. So, if you can fit a 3 bolt anything cage this is recommended. Always follow the cage manufacturers on max load limits.

 

Does the BRAVe have provisions for a kickstand?

The BRAVe does not support the use of a kickstand.
